Purigen™ is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%. Purigen™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. Purigen’s™ impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Purigen™ darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use. This product is sold by volume. Cited weight is minimal weight.

I've been using this stuff for about a year now. I recommend this product to any hobbyists out there. This product keeps my water in absolute prestine condition. My nitrate's NEVER go past 5ppm. Once in a while they'll get to 5ppm but 90% of the time they're at ZERO! Purigen can be easilly regenerated as well. Lasts about 6 months and either needs to be replaced or regenerated. Its not cheap but not expensive and its worth every penny. I hope you folks are either using it or absolutely need to run out and get this stuff!

This is really useful information, thank you. One of the issues I have (as a retiree) is what to do with my fish if I spend, say, 4 months a year where it's warm. I could just put this stuff in the tank and not have to worry too much about water changes? Good to know!

I find mine doesn't last nearly as long... But it can easily be regenerated in bleach then use prime to soak.

SEachem's tech support has info on it.

I need to regenerate mine about monthly. Once it's all brown it's not doing anything. Just don't throw it out!
