I can get 50 gallon buckets of it from a local lfs when they're on sale. You go through alot of it when you're hatching bbs for 5 spawns.

I will check walmart.... Will check lfs also... I never find anything cheap in lfs as everything is expensive.. I either buy things online or at petsmart wth the coupons that float around....but will check it out...

I get mine where I get my sand, the pool and spa dealer. They normally will sell 50lb bags of Morton non-iodized table salt for $4.99. This is much cheaper than buying it from the LFS in my experience.

I use a 1 gallon pitcher to dispense it from. I just fill the pitcher up with salt and use the screw top lid to open and close it. It makes it much easier for measuring out what you need. I got the 50 gallon bag months ago and have barely put a dent in it...should last me through the year.

Interesting. I worked at a pool and spa place for years and we never sold salt at all hardly. Tiny little salt smelly stuff. 8oz only. Good find Cole.

I've never seen petco or smart carry big things of salt. It'd have to be a ma-and pa type lfs.

Yeah I don't think Home depot would have anything except salt for clearing ice...not sure what the contents are for that type of salt.

The salt at the pool store says right on the front of the bag, Pure "NaCl." You may also be able to find good prices at grocery stores where you find the flour and sugar. They often have big bags of salt there.

I'm going to get a big bag instead of messing with the little boxes. What Exactly am I looking for? The big yellow bags for a water softener?

I believe it is the blue bag that is the water softener, and it says something about replenishing water conditioners...not sure what thats all about, except I would imagine its something beyond pure nacl. Sounds like it must contain some sort of additive.

I usually go with this stuff:

Coarse rock salt is what you are after.
