I'll make you a deal...
You spend the next 2 months gathering up what you need to raise a handful of little baby Dempseys and as soon as they are big enough to eat typical foods I’ll give you a handful of them to raise. A cycled 20 gallon tank with an appropriate filter/heater, etc should be fine. Golds are as hardy as regular JDs so nothing special is needed (such as UV lights if they were Blues).
You’ll also be the first person I’ve given/sold Gold Dempseys to that I bred myself.
But I must put one stipulation on this… You cannot breed them back to each other to make babies. Yes they will be Gold babies, But they will be second generation brother x sister inbred and will be lower quality. I would hate for these lower quality fish to get into the trade and earn Gold Dempseys a poor reputation of being low quality fish. This low quality inbreeding is what (I believe) has put our Blue Dempseys in a lower quality situation now. So let’s learn from that mistake and not inbred high quality fish to later be stuck with low quality fish…
Sorry for the speech…
but you’ve got two months… starting… NOW!
